Economic Community New Year's Meeting... "We Must Join Forces for Swift Political Stabilization"

Over 600 Attendees Including Heads of the 4 Major Groups

The business community has called for cooperation between the government and political circles to promptly stabilize state affairs and resolve economic uncertainties.


Choi Tae-won, Chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), said at the '2025 New Year's Meeting' held on the 3rd at the KCCI building in Jung-gu, Seoul, "The greatest fear in the economy is uncertainty," adding, "If uncertainty prolongs, it is difficult to gauge its repercussions." He emphasized, "We desperately need the help of the government and political leaders," and earnestly requested, "Please join forces to quickly stabilize state affairs."


Chairman Choi continued, "We will steadfastly promote investment and job creation," and said, "We will seek the image of companies that the public desires, communicate with more people, and demonstrate a new entrepreneurial spirit that solves social problems through innovation."


Including Chairman Choi, about 600 figures from the business community such as Lee Jae-yong, Chairman of Samsung Electronics; Chung Eui-sun, Chairman of Hyundai Motor Group; and Koo Kwang-mo, Chairman of LG Group, began the event with a moment of silence for the victims of the Jeju Air disaster. During the event held in the national mourning period, the KCCI stated, "The business community also expresses deep condolences over the recent tragic incident."

From the government, Acting President Choi Sang-mok, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Ahn Deok-geun, Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Tae-yeol, Minister of Employment and Labor Kim Moon-soo, Minister of SMEs and Startups Oh Young-joo, Chairman of the Financial Services Commission Kim Byung-hwan, and Vice Chairman of the Committee for Ageing Society and Population Policy Joo Hyung-hwan attended. Economic organization heads present included Ryu Jin, Chairman of the Korea Economic Association; Yoon Jin-sik, Chairman of the Korea International Trade Association; Sohn Kyung-shik, Chairman of the Korea Employers Federation; and Choi Jin-sik, Chairman of the Korea Association of Small & Medium Business.


From the business sector, including the heads of the four major conglomerates, were Kim Dong-kwan, Vice Chairman of Hanwha; Jung Ki-sun, Senior Vice Chairman of HD Hyundai; Heo Tae-soo, Chairman of GS Group; Chung Yong-jin, Chairman of Shinsegae Group; Jang In-hwa, Chairman of POSCO; Kim Young-seop, CEO of KT; Cho Won-tae, Chairman of Hanjin Group; Hyun Jeong-eun, Chairwoman of Hyundai Group; and Jin Ok-dong, Chairwoman of Shinhan Financial Group. From the political sphere, Kwon Seong-dong, Floor Leader of the People Power Party; Jin Sung-jun, Policy Committee Chair of the Democratic Party; Cha Gyu-geun, Policy Committee Chair of the Party for National Innovation; and Cheon Ha-ram, Floor Leader of the Reform New Party attended.
