Dangjin City in Chungnam Province announced the publication of a book titled "Regional Cultural History Through Oral Narratives" to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the opening of the Hapdeok Water Management Folk Museum.
This popular book, produced based on the "Modern and Contemporary Oral History Research of the Hapdeokje Area," collects research materials through the oral testimonies of residents who have long lived around Hapdeokje, documenting the vivid everyday culture of local people that has not been recorded in literature.
The book is organized with illustrations by topic to help readers easily understand the content.
Hapdeokje has so far been highlighted mainly for its function as an agricultural water reservoir, but this research revealed that it has also been used as a source of domestic water supply, which is equally significant.
Additionally, the study identified various aspects of local history that had not received much attention before, including the everyday culture of residents in the upper reaches of Hapdeokje who practiced Mokyeong (Mogyeong).
A museum official stated, "This newly published book is especially meaningful as it collects research materials based on the oral testimonies of residents who have long lived around Hapdeokje," and added, "This year as well, we will do our best to continue research, education, promotional exhibitions, preservation of Hapdeokje, and to promote the development of local culture and enhance residents' cultural enjoyment rights."
