Yoon Sang-hyun Rushes to Official Residence: "Prosecutor General and Judge Issuing Warrants Must Be Impeached"

The High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Agency (Gong-su-cheo) began the procedure to execute an arrest warrant for President Yoon Seok-yeol on the morning of the 3rd. Following his visit to the Hannam-dong residence, Yoon Sang-hyun, a member of the People Power Party, urged, "Gong-su-cheo must stop its outrageous attempt to investigate the president even now." On the same day, Yoon posted on his Facebook, "Gong-su-cheo has finally initiated an illegal and ultra vires warrant execution procedure," and claimed, "Executing an arrest warrant against a sitting president seriously undermines the Constitution and the rule of law."

On the morning of the 3rd, Yoon Sang-hyun, a member of the People Power Party, was heading to the presidential residence in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul. On the same day, the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials proceeded with the execution of an arrest warrant for President Yoon Seok-yeol.

He continued, "Treason was never subject to Gong-su-cheo's investigation," and criticized, "The actions of the Gong-su-cheo chief, who launched an unreasonable investigation based on abuse of power, and the warrant judge who issued the arrest warrant for the sitting president are illegal and ultra vires political acts." He further argued that the ruling party should immediately impeach Gong-su-cheo Chief Oh Dong-woon and Seoul Western District Court warrant judge Lee Soon-hyung. He also pointed out, "A judge, as a member of the judiciary, issued an illegal and invalid warrant that exempts Articles 110 and 111 of the Criminal Procedure Act, as if possessing legislative power." This referred to the fact that Chief Judge Lee Soon-hyung specified the exemption of applying Articles 110 and 111 of the Criminal Procedure Act when issuing the arrest warrant.

In particular, Representative Yoon emphasized to Gong-su-cheo, "Executing an arrest warrant against a sitting president seriously undermines the Constitution and the rule of law," and stressed, "President Yoon Seok-yeol still enjoys the 'status and position' of the head of state representing the people and the Republic of Korea." He added, "Just because his authority is temporarily suspended does not mean that his status and position are lost," and "Until the Constitutional Court issues an impeachment decision, no one or any institution should rashly conclude the Court's judgment and decision." Meanwhile, Gong-su-cheo, after initiating the execution of the arrest warrant for President Yoon on the morning of the day, is currently in a standoff with the Presidential Security Service inside the Hannam-dong residence in Seoul.
