Exhibition Held at Goheung Buncheong Cultural Museum and Art Center
Attracts 26,000 Visitors Amid Nationwide Enthusiast Interest
Goheung County, Jeonnam (Governor Gong Youngmin) announced on the 3rd that the special exhibition "Brilliant Legend Cheon Kyungja, 100th Anniversary Commemorative Exhibition," which opened on November 11, attracted a total of 26,000 visitors and received high praise from attendees, concluding successfully.
This special exhibition was the only solo exhibition held nationwide to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of the late artist Cheon Kyungja. It was hosted in her hometown of Goheung at the Goheung Buncheong Cultural Museum and Goheung Art Center.

The exhibition showcased a total of 160 works, including 29 colored paintings, 23 drawings, 6 ink works on Korean paper, and 102 archival pieces, as well as various personal collections, relics, and media art, capturing the attention of art lovers from across the country.
In particular, through the work of media artist Lee Lee-nam, Cheon Kyungja's artistic world was reinterpreted in a modern context, providing visitors with a fresh and profound experience.
On the final weekend of the exhibition, December 28 and 29, about 1,300 visitors came each day, reflecting the deepening interest in Cheon Kyungja. Visitors commented, "It was very meaningful to appreciate Cheon Kyungja's works up close through an exhibition held in her hometown of Goheung."
Cheon Kyungja, born in Goheung in 1924, was a unique artist who continued her creative work for over 70 years. Her life and works have inspired and moved many people. This special exhibition in Goheung played an important role not only as an exhibition but also in allowing the local community to honor and pass on Cheon Kyungja's artistic legacy to future generations.
Through this exhibition, visitors were able to once again experience Cheon Kyungja's art and share moments of longing and inspiration.
Professor Sumita Kim, who served as the general director of the exhibition, stated, "This exhibition highlighted the unique art historical significance of Cheon Kyungja as an artist, while also providing an intimate experience to deeply understand her humanity and life."
She added, "Various tribute projects being promoted by Goheung County, such as the restoration of her birthplace, the naming of 'Cheon Kyungja Art Road,' and the establishment of a memorial hall, will serve as important milestones and driving forces for the ongoing efforts to honor Cheon Kyungja."
Governor Gong Youngmin said, "The special exhibition commemorating the 100th anniversary of Cheon Kyungja's birth was successfully concluded after 51 days. I sincerely thank everyone who visited and shared their impressions, as well as those who lent their works, making this exhibition possible. We will continue our efforts so that Cheon Kyungja's name will be remembered and cherished as a cultural asset of Korea through ongoing promotion projects."
