On the 2nd, Jeonnam Province proposed using funds from the Community Chest of Korea to provide living expenses to the bereaved families.
Governor Kim Yungrok, instead of holding a New Year's kick-off ceremony, attended a meeting of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters and requested, "Even if the fundraising by the Community Chest of Korea is still in progress, I hope you will consider providing an emergency lump-sum payment of 3 million won to those in urgent need."
Governor Kim also suggested, at the request of the bereaved families, the restoration of prosthetics for severely damaged bodies and the publication of a white paper documenting the accident response procedures.
Jeonnam Province also announced that provincial government officials would operate a one-on-one support team for each bereaved family to provide maximum assistance with child care, funeral procedures, and more.
In addition, the province added that, with the help of the Medical Association, the Korean Medicine Association, and volunteers, they are providing medical, psychological, and legal counseling, as well as meals, supplies, and accommodation, to ensure that the bereaved families experience no inconvenience and receive fully customized support.
Jeonnam Province is also deploying staff to operate regional memorial altars, such as the joint altar at Muan Airport, to ensure that visitors pay their respects without inconvenience.
