Relief as Gosam Lake Waterfront Development Progresses Normally
Mayor Kim Bora: "Full Effort to Secure Budget for Necessary Projects"
On the 2nd, Anseong City in Gyeonggi Province announced that it secured a total of 15.2 billion KRW in special grants and special adjustment grants in the second half of last year.
Special grants refer to funds allocated by the central government to local governments as part of local allocation tax to balance finances, with certain conditions or usage restrictions attached. Special adjustment grants are budgets allocated by metropolitan governments such as cities and provinces to city or county governments when there are special financial needs.
The budget secured by the city includes 3.86 billion KRW for five projects from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s special grants and 11.37 billion KRW for ten projects from Gyeonggi Province’s special adjustment grants.
The major projects funded include, for special grants, ▲ Gosam Lake waterfront development project (800 million KRW) ▲ small stream maintenance project (1 billion KRW) ▲ permanent restoration costs for heavy snow damage (860 million KRW) ▲ emergency restoration costs for heavy snow damage (1.2 billion KRW), among others. For special adjustment grants, projects include ▲ Chilgok Noeulbit Lake creation project (4 billion KRW) ▲ Gosam Lake waterfront development project (2.2 billion KRW) ▲ installation of security CCTV in crime-prone areas (1.31 billion KRW) ▲ road expansion and paving between Samheung and Mijang (1 billion KRW), among others.
The city explained that although it reduced expenditure budgets by 14.7 billion KRW in projects such as the Gosam Lake waterfront development and Chilgok Noeulbit Lake creation projects in the revised main budget process last year to respond to the heavy snow damage at the end of November, securing national and provincial funds has made it possible to proceed normally with the lake tourism projects.
Kim Bora, mayor of Anseong City, said, "Since these funds were secured during difficult times, we will do our best to carry out projects for the safety and happiness of citizens," adding, "We will continue to make persistent requests to secure budgets for projects that are essential to our citizens."
