At the New Year's Kickoff Ceremony: "We Will Welcome the New Year with the Spirit of Yujigyeongseong"
Lee Eungwoo, Mayor of Gyeryong City, Chungnam Province, stated on the 2nd, "I would like to thank all public officials who silently fulfilled their responsibilities in their respective positions last year for the completion of 'Yes! Gyeryong, Overflowing with Happiness.'"
At the New Year's kick-off ceremony held in the city hall's main conference room, Mayor Lee said, "In the new year of Eulsanyeon, we will greet the year with the spirit of 'Those with will shall achieve in the end,' actively responding to the trends of the times and proactively securing future growth engines."
He then presented three major visions for this year's city administration: 'Powerful National Defense City,' 'Smarter Rural City,' and 'Wellness Happiness City.'
The Powerful National Defense City vision includes the construction of the National Military Museum, the K-Defense Convention Center, continued promotion of the Intelligent Sensor Technology Support Project, and the relocation and attraction of key national defense public institutions.
The Smarter Rural City initiative will promote projects such as the creation of the Hyangjeoksan Forest Recreation Town, the establishment of a city of light and flower gardens, the development of climate-responsive urban forests and community-based forests, and the improvement of the two Gyecheon streams' natural disaster risk zones.
In particular, the Hyangjeoksan Forest Recreation Town project will develop a forest ecology center, forest experience center, and ecological exploration trails, following the designation of 450,000 square meters around Hyangjeoksan as an ecological forest in March last year.
The Wellness Happiness City initiative will provide residential land for 2,015 households through the Hadaesil District 2 urban development project, and build a National Sports Center and a Bandabi Sports Center for the disabled to promote citizens' health.
Mayor Lee urged, "In order to successfully carry out these tasks, the sense of responsibility and duty of public officials is more important than anything else. Please do your utmost in your roles as servants of the citizens."
