Additional Installation of Street Trash Bins at Bus Stops and Subway Station Entrances with High Foot Traffic
Pilot Installation of Dedicated Disposable Cup Collection Bins on the Side... Expected to Improve Convenience of Waste Disposal and Increase Recycling Rates
Assignment of Dedicated Managers for Street Trash Bins for Regular Cleaning and Disinfection... Creating a Pleasant Street Environment
Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) has expanded the installation of street trash bins to create a clean street environment and improve urban aesthetics.
As of the end of 2022, the district increased the number of street trash bins from 76 to 252, a 300% expansion. The main installation locations are ▲bus stops ▲subway station entrances ▲roadsides with crosswalks, where there is a high flow of people but no trash bins, leading to frequent illegal dumping.
The newly installed street trash bins consist of two bins?one for general waste and one for recycling?differentiated by color to improve recycling rates through efficient waste separation.
At the top, stickers indicating the purpose of each bin have been attached to enhance convenience for residents when disposing of trash.
In particular, a “disposable cup-only collection bin” has been pilot-installed on the side of the street trash bins. Residents can conveniently separate and dispose of disposable cups while walking, and the district expects an increase in the recycling rate of disposable cups that are otherwise carelessly discarded.
The district is also making meticulous efforts to manage the street trash bins. Dedicated managers are assigned to regularly clean and disinfect the bins, contributing to cleanliness and the creation of a pleasant street environment.
Park Jun-hee, Mayor of Gwanak-gu, said, “The installation of these street trash bins and disposable cup-only collection bins reflects the concerns of our residents,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to create a clean living environment in Gwanak through efficient recycling policies such as street trash bins that do not spoil the urban landscape.”
