Sharing 'Boktteokguk' with residents who came to watch the sunrise from 6 AM on the 1st
Official events including performances canceled to mourn victims of Jeju Air passenger plane accident
On the morning of the 1st, Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) started the new year by sharing 'boktteokguk' with residents who visited Baebongsan, a famous sunrise spot in Dongdaemun-gu.
The district placed safety personnel along the walking trails and entrances to ensure residents could safely view the first sunrise of the year. Official events such as performances were canceled to mourn the victims of the recent Jeju Air passenger plane accident.
District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung also visited Baebongsan that day to personally share rice cake soup with residents and exchange well-wishes.
The mayor said, "I sincerely hope that this year will be filled only with happiness for our residents," adding, "We will do our best to ensure that residents can enjoy the happiness of daily life with peace of mind."
Afterwards, the mayor moved to the National Seoul Memorial Cemetery in Dongjak-gu, where he joined Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon and the heads of the 25 autonomous districts of Seoul to pay tribute by laying flowers and incense at the Memorial Tower.
