Damyang County in Jeollanam-do announced on the 1st that a joint memorial altar for the victims of the Jeju Air passenger plane accident has been set up at the Damyang Culture Center.


On the previous morning, Damyang County Governor Lee Byungno, along with senior officials, visited the joint memorial altar to pay tribute to the victims with floral offerings and a moment of silence. Afterwards, he visited the joint memorial altar set up at the Muan General Sports Park in Muan County, Jeollanam-do, as well as Muan International Airport, to offer his deepest condolences to the bereaved families.


The Damyang joint memorial altar will be open until the 4th, during the national mourning period, and visitors can pay their respects from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.


Governor Lee stated, "I pray for the souls of the victims of the Jeju Air passenger plane accident and extend my deepest condolences and sympathy to the bereaved families."


Earlier, on the morning of the 29th of last month, the county activated the Regional Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, with the county governor serving as the head. Since its activation, the county has held situation assessment meetings and prioritized securing the safety of residents and supporting the victims, dispatching on-site response teams, maintaining a 24-hour emergency contact system, and organizing seven working groups to operate the headquarters until the situation is resolved.


Meanwhile, Damyang County has canceled the sunrise event and is participating in mourning by having all public officials wear memorial ribbons.
