Building on Last Year's Achievements, Striving Harder in 2025 to Establish the First Year of Yeongcheon Development
Welcoming the new year of Eulsa in 2025, Mayor Choi Gi-moon of Yeongcheon City delivered a New Year's message on the 31st, saying, "As we enter the Year of the Blue Snake in 2025, a symbol of wisdom and growth, I sincerely wish that the energy of the Blue Snake brings you health and happiness always," offering kind words to the citizens.

First, before his New Year's message, Mayor Choi expressed deep condolences and sympathy to the victims and bereaved families of the Jeju Air disaster last year.
Reflecting on Yeongcheon City's major achievements in 2024, Mayor Choi stated, "Last year, thanks to the support of Yeongcheon citizens, the Daegu Urban Railway extension project to Yeongcheon (Geumho) passed the preliminary feasibility study by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and we attracted a total investment of 3.5521 trillion KRW to the Yeongcheon Advanced Parts and Materials Industrial Complex and Gokyeong General Industrial Complex."
He continued, "We succeeded in designating an education development special zone and attracting a recruitment-type autonomous public high school for military children (the 2nd Hanmin High School), laying the foundation to grow into a prestigious education city," emphasizing, "As a result of these efforts, we received 48 awards from various institutions, including excellence in local government innovation evaluation and the Gyeongsangbuk-do investment attraction award."
Mayor Choi said, "2025 is a crucial time to achieve a greater leap forward based on last year's achievements," adding, "We will steadily promote key projects that will be the core driving forces of future growth to create 'Yeongcheon, a city where citizens are happy and live well, centered on a metropolitan transportation network where businesses and talents gather.'"
He also added, "We will revitalize the local economy by strengthening the competitiveness of traditional markets and supporting youth independence, build metropolitan transportation infrastructure, and invigorate the regional economy by attracting excellent companies to industrial complexes."
In particular, he presented a blueprint to "thoroughly prepare for the opening of the 2nd Hanmin High School and develop it into the nation's top prestigious high school," stating, "We will actively respond to the crisis of local extinction and nurture future talents."
In the tourism sector, he said, "We will make Yeongcheon the most attractive tourist city in Gyeongbuk," and added, "By combining Yeongcheon's history and humanities elements, we will create a city where tourism and culture coexist, introduce smart technology to strengthen agricultural competitiveness, and enhance the brand value of Yeongcheon garlic through the establishment of the Garlic Convergence Center."
Regarding welfare policies, he promised, "We will realize welfare that everyone enjoys together through support for postpartum care expenses, free bus fares for youth, and expanded metropolitan transportation support for seniors."
Mayor Choi emphasized the importance of communication with citizens, pledging, "We will lead a trustworthy administration by reflecting citizens' voices and conducting transparent and fair governance."
Finally, Mayor Choi presented the New Year's motto for 2025 as ‘Changdo Yakjin (創道躍進)’ and expressed his determination, saying, "We will pioneer new paths and leap forward vigorously for the development of Yeongcheon."
He stated, "To this end, we will steadily promote major pending projects such as the extension of the Daegu Urban Railway, the opening of Yeongcheon Race Park, and the opening of the Geumho Daechang Hi-Pass IC, making 2025 a year that marks a new chapter in Yeongcheon's history," emphasizing, "We will make 2025 the inaugural year of Yeongcheon's leap forward."
