Hong Tae-yong, Mayor of Gimhae, Mourns Victims of Jeju Air Passenger Plane

Hong Taeyong, mayor of Gimhae City, Gyeongnam, paid tribute to the victims at the joint memorial altar for the Jeju Air passenger plane accident victims set up at Gimhae Culture and Sports Center on the 31st.


Mayor Hong said, "I pray for the repose of the victims and express my deepest condolences and sympathy to the bereaved families," adding, "We will share the pain of the bereaved families who are going through great sorrow."

Gimhae City set up the memorial altar in the morning and will operate it until January 4, 2025, the national mourning period.


Along with this, the city hall and affiliated organizations raised mourning flags, and condolence banners were posted at the city hall main building and town offices.


All employees, including the mayor, wore black mourning ribbons on their chests.

The 2025 Gimhae Citizens' Bell Ringing Ceremony scheduled for that night was completely canceled, and the sunrise event hosted by public and private sectors was guided to proceed in a calm atmosphere.


The joint memorial altar set up at Gimhae Culture and Sports Center operates from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and anyone can pay their respects to the deceased there.
