Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and a rising power in the second Trump administration, is reportedly renting a $2,000-per-day (about 2.94 million KRW) villa at Mar-a-Lago Resort in Florida, the private estate of President-elect Donald Trump. On the 30th, The New York Times (NYT) reported, "Musk began staying at ‘Banyan,’ a villa facility within Mar-a-Lago Resort in Palm Beach, Florida, on December 5, before the presidential election, and left just before Christmas." Banyan is said to be located several hundred feet away from the main house where Trump stays.

According to NYT, Musk stayed there accompanied by two of his at least 11 known children and their nannies. Earlier, Trump’s granddaughter Kai Trump posted a photo on her X (formerly Twitter) showing Musk and his son, X Æ A-Xii, at the Mar-a-Lago Resort golf course. At the time, Kai said, "Elon is gaining uncle status" and "He is now part of the family."

Besides Musk, other figures such as Vice President-elect J. D. Vance have occasionally stayed at the Mar-a-Lago villa, but it is rare for anyone outside the family to reside there as Musk does. NYT evaluated that Musk has literally taken a seat at Trump’s doorstep, gaining direct opportunities to be involved in Trump’s transition work and policy decisions. He reportedly participated in personnel meetings of the transition team and calls between President-elect Trump and foreign leaders from close proximity. Musk also once accompanied his rival Jeff Bezos, Amazon CEO, when Bezos met with President-elect Trump.

Leaders of major U.S. big tech companies have been visiting Mar-a-Lago Resort one after another. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg visited the site last month, and Apple CEO Tim Cook, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, and Google co-founder Sergey Brin have also met with President-elect Trump. On the 27th, Trump announced on his social media that Microsoft founder Bill Gates requested a meeting with him, writing, “Where are you? When will you come to Mar-a-Lago, the ‘center of the universe’? We want to see you and X.” CNN described this as "a private message from President-elect Trump to Musk." There are expectations that Musk will return to Mar-a-Lago soon.
