Seobu District Court Issues Arrest Warrant for President Yoon Seok-yeol
The court issued an arrest warrant for President Yoon Seok-yeol on the 31st on charges of rebellion related to the 'December 3 Emergency Martial Law Incident.'
This is the first time in constitutional history that an arrest warrant has been issued for a sitting president.
According to the legal community, Lee Soon-hyung, the warrant judge at the Seoul Western District Court, issued the arrest warrant requested by the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Agency (HOCI) against President Yoon on the morning of the same day. A search warrant was also issued.
Accordingly, the HOCI is expected to execute the arrest warrant at President Yoon's residence soon. Typically, the validity period of an arrest warrant is one week from the date of issuance.
The HOCI requested the arrest warrant at midnight the previous day after President Yoon failed to comply with demands to appear as a suspect on charges of rebellion leader and obstruction of the exercise of official duties by abuse of power on three separate occasions.
