Gyeonggi-do Publishes Universal Design Casebook

Gyeonggi Province has published the "Gyeonggi Province Universal Design Casebook," which contains excellent examples of universal design projects.

Universal design refers to urban spaces or environmental designs that can be safely and conveniently used by everyone regardless of nationality, gender, age, or disability.

The Gyeonggi Province universal design project has been promoted through public contests in 38 cities and counties from 2014 to 2024.

In particular, Gyeonggi Province is applying universal design to public institutions within the province to ensure no inconvenience for anyone, including people with disabilities, as a core value of the 8th local government administration, and is expanding it to the private sector. Since 2023, the province has been implementing the "Universal Design Project for Transportation Vulnerable Groups" in a total of 10 locations, five each year, to improve living environments for the elderly, disabled, and other transportation-vulnerable groups.

Park Jong-geun, Director of the Architecture and Design Division of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Through the publication of the Gyeonggi Province Universal Design Casebook, we hope to build consensus so that residents can easily understand universal design, and that it will be helpful for related projects promoted by the province, cities, counties, and affiliated organizations in the future."
