Joint Memorial Altar for Jeju Air Passenger Plane Accident Victims Installed at Aetteul Square, Incheon City Hall

Incheon City installed a joint memorial altar at the Incheon Aeteul Lawn Plaza in front of City Hall to mourn the victims of the Jeju Air passenger plane accident that occurred on the 29th.

Following the government's declaration of a special disaster area and the policy for the mourning period, the city prepared a space where citizens can mourn the victims together. The joint memorial altar will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. until January 4 of next year.

Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok and senior city officials visited the memorial altar on the 30th to pay their respects to the victims. Mayor Yoo stated, "We hope to comfort the souls of the victims and offer some consolation to their families," adding, "Incheon City will do its best to support the victims and their families of this accident."

All employees at Incheon City Hall and public institutions plan to wear mourning ribbons to participate in the national mourning atmosphere. Additionally, all public institutions will fly flags at half-mast during the mourning period to honor the victims.

Meanwhile, Jeju Air flight 7C2216, which departed from Bangkok, Thailand, attempted to land on the runway around 9:03 a.m. on the 29th with the landing gear (airplane wheels) not deployed, colliding with airport facilities. Of the 181 people on board, 179 lost their lives, excluding 2 crew members.
