On the 30th, Namyangju Mayor Joo Gwang-deok said this in his New Year's address, stating, "2025 is the year to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the integration of Namyangju."

The mayor continued, "We will concentrate our administrative power to the fullest to ensure the swift opening of the Gyeonggi Public Medical Center," and added, "Starting with the agreement to build a future-oriented integrated IT center with Woori Financial Group at the end of last year, we will do our best to create a city where people want to invest by securing quality jobs and a solid income base."

Welcoming the new year of 2025, the Year of Eulsa, Mayor Joo presented the vision for Namyangju City and pledged a great leap forward toward a 'future-oriented self-sufficient city' together with 740,000 citizens.

First, Mayor Joo stated that he will move toward becoming a 'metropolitan center city' by building a more tightly connected transportation network.

He said, "On the 24th of last month, the basic plan for the extension of Subway Line 9 to Namyangju was approved by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport," and added, "We will do everything possible to open it by 2031."

He continued, "We will accelerate the planned metropolitan transportation projects such as the extension of Subway Lines 8 and 9, the construction of Suseok Bridge (Suseok-dong to Hanam), the creation of an underground road on Gangbyeonbuk-ro, the construction of an underground road from Toegyewon IC to Pangyo, the Jungbu Connection Expressway (Jinjeop to Hanam), and the Northern Gyeonggi 1.5 Ring Road (Paju to Yangju to Pocheon to Namyangju), to create a true metropolitan transportation hub city where all roads lead to Namyangju," he emphasized.

Mayor Joo also said, "We will do our best in various efforts to directly connect the Gyeongchun Line and the Suin-Bundang Line," adding, "Securing three subway lines directly connected to Gangnam will make the unimaginable a reality and realize Namyangju as the 'best transportation hub city'."

The mayor further emphasized, "Through dynamic growth, we will create a 'prosperous city.'"

He stated, "We will establish an advanced industrial ecosystem such as IT and AI centered on the urban high-tech industrial complex in Wangsuk New Town to create jobs and revitalize the local economy," and added, "Last year, we took the first step toward realizing a self-sufficient city by signing an agreement with Woori Financial Group to build the future-oriented integrated IT center, Digital Universe."

Additionally, he pledged to promptly implement support policies for small business owners and projects to revitalize local consumption to activate the local commercial district.

Mayor Joo also promised, "We will enhance the city's dignity as a 'city where citizens are proud to live.'"

He said, "For sustainable growth, we plan to establish a city brand and create landmarks," and added, "Through the Dasan Jeong Yak-yong brand project, we will strengthen Namyangju's identity, and by creating a park over the Gyeongui-Jungang Line covering and an eco-friendly waterfront tourism belt, we will develop a complex cultural space in the city center."

In particular, he promised to provide citizens with a pleasant environment and future-oriented administrative services through the underground public sewage treatment facility project and the construction of a new city hall for a population of 1 million.

Mayor Joo emphasized, "We will become the 'number one city in happiness index' that takes responsibility for citizens' daily lives."

He said, "We will strengthen lifecycle care policies from childbirth support to elderly welfare to create the number one city in happiness index," adding, "To make a city where children and parents are happy together, we will strengthen the care system and expand support projects for youth and women entrepreneurs."

He also mentioned plans to create a safe city through customized jobs and welfare infrastructure expansion for seniors and a proactive disaster response system.

Mayor Joo pledged, "With the attitude of Gongseongibulgeo (功成而不居 - achieving success but not dwelling on it), we will not be complacent with past achievements and will tighten our shoelaces once again to accelerate the realization of a future-oriented self-sufficient super-growth Namyangju," emphasizing, "In the era of citizen mayors, we will communicate more closely with citizens and resolve inconveniences."
