Gyeonggi Province will set up a joint memorial altar on the 30th to mourn the victims of the Jeju Air passenger plane accident and will receive condolences starting from the 31st.
On the same day, Gyeonggi Province announced that it will install joint memorial altars at two locations near the lobby of Suwon Station and Uijeongbu Station Plaza, and will welcome mourners for five days from December 31 this year to January 4 next year. Considering accessibility for residents, the operating hours of the joint memorial altars will be from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Gyeonggi Province will also fly flags at half-mast at the Gwanggyo Government Complex and Uijeongbu Northern Government Complex flagpoles until January 4, the national mourning period.
In addition, Gyeonggi Province will operate the Gyeonggi Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters until the situation is resolved to respond to and support the Jeju Air passenger plane accident.
The Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters is composed of seven working teams, led by the Governor as the head, including the First Deputy Governor for Administration, the Director of the Safety Management Office (General Coordinator), the Director of the Railway, Port, and Logistics Bureau (Controller), and the Head of the Logistics and Port Division (Officer in charge). Its main tasks include grasping the current status related to the disaster and supporting the bereaved families of the deceased.
On the 30th, Gyeonggi Governor Kim Dong-yeon stated at the 1st plenary session of the 381st Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly, "I express my deepest condolences to those who lost their lives and their bereaved families in this unfortunate aviation accident. It is truly heartbreaking that such a tragedy has occurred amid political turmoil and anxiety." He emphasized, "The Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters immediately dispatched six ambulances, and we will continue to provide support as needed. Gyeonggi Province will stand together until this tragedy is resolved and this pain is healed."
