On the 30th, Gyeonggi Province approved the basic maintenance plans for the aging planned cities of Bucheon Jung-dong and Gunpo Sanbon, which are part of the first phase of new towns.
From the early stages of establishing the basic plans, Gyeonggi Province prepared review guidelines through the Gyeonggi Province Urban Planning Committee’s preliminary consultation and the Aging Planned Cities Research Group composed of urban planning committee members. They conducted a prior review of the appropriateness and completeness of the maintenance basic plans, significantly shortening the review period.
The prior review covered ▲infrastructure capacity assessment ▲traffic planning according to the increased number of households ▲transition to carbon-neutral cities such as the expansion of Gyeonggi RE100 ▲reflection of the vision for continuous residence cities ▲strengthening of self-sufficiency functions ▲and safe city measures.
Recently, Gyeonggi Province designated six organizations as the ‘Local Aging Planned Cities Maintenance Support Organizations’: Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation (GH), Gyeonggi Research Institute, Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation, Gyeonggi Social Service Institute, Gyeonggi Environment and Energy Promotion Agency, and Gyeonggi Economic Science Promotion Agency.
Through the expertise of each organization, they will systematically support the entire process from planning to execution of maintenance projects, focusing on accelerating project speed and enhancing completeness.
Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, stated, “Gyeonggi Province, local governments, experts, and residents cooperated with one heart to achieve both speed and completeness in approving the basic maintenance plans. We will continuously strive to ensure that the first phase new town maintenance projects are not merely apartment reconstructions but urban reconstructions that embody residents’ lives, establishing them as international model cases.”
Meanwhile, Seongnam Bundang, which was also discussed at the Gyeonggi Province Urban Planning Committee, received a ‘conditional approval’ due to deficiencies in the city’s aging planned city ordinance. Goyang Ilsan and Anyang Pyeongchon are expected to proceed with approval after completing procedures such as the city urban planning committee review.
Gyeonggi Province plans to review and approve these as quickly as possible once the respective cities prepare and submit their applications.
