Cho Tae-yeol "Up to 2 Thais... Sincere Condolences to Everyone"

179 of 181 Passengers Dead

In the wake of the Jeju Air passenger plane disaster, which resulted in the death of Thai victims, Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yeol expressed his condolences to the victims and their families.


On the 30th, Minister Cho Tae-yeol stated on X (formerly Twitter), "The tragic passenger plane crash at Muan International Airport has brought us great shock and deep sorrow," adding, "It pains my heart to lose many precious lives, including two Thai nationals on board."

Minister Cho added, "I sincerely extend my condolences to all the victims and their families."


The previous morning, Jeju Air flight 7C 2216 (B737-800), carrying 181 passengers including 175 passengers and 6 crew members from Bangkok, Thailand to Muan, attempted to land at Muan Airport but collided with the outer wall of the runway and was engulfed in flames. As a result of this accident, 179 people died, excluding 2 crew members.


Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha also expressed his condolences. He further instructed the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs to promptly assist the Thai bereaved families and to regularly report on related matters.
