The first metropolitan express bus (M-bus) route connecting Yeongjong International City in Jung-gu, Incheon, and Gangnam Station in Seoul was launched on the 28th.
According to Incheon City on the 30th, three metropolitan buses (M6462) on this route operate nine round trips daily between the back gate of Woorim 1st Complex in Yeongjong International City and in front of Seocho Hyundai Tower at Gangnam Station, Seoul. Residents of Yeongjong International City have been requesting the establishment of an M-bus route to Seoul Gangnam since 2019.
In January next year, two new M-bus routes will open, departing from Geomdan Elementary School in Seo-gu, Incheon, traveling respectively to Yeouido Complex Transfer Center (M6659) and Guro Digital Complex Station (M6660) in Seoul. Additionally, an M-bus (M6461) running between Soraepogu Station in Namdong-gu and Yeoksam Station in Seoul is scheduled to start operation in February next year.
Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Area Wide-area Transportation Committee (Daegwangwi) under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport recently decided to establish two new M-bus routes: Incheon Yeongjong Haneul City to Seoul Seocho Yangjae Flower Market, and Incheon Songdo International City to Seoul Gangnam Station.
The city plans to cooperate with Daegwangwi to promote the transition of M-buses to a quasi-public operation system and secure national funding to stably operate metropolitan buses.
An official from Incheon City stated, "The opening of new M-bus routes and the selection of additional routes will reduce inconvenience for citizens commuting to and from Seoul," adding, "Through stabilizing the quasi-public operation system for metropolitan buses, we will enhance transportation welfare for Incheon citizens and provide better metropolitan bus services."
