Thai Government: "Two Thai Women Dead in Jeju Air Accident"

A Jeju Air passenger plane collided and caught fire while landing at Muan International Airport, resulting in the deaths of 179 people. The Thai government announced that two Thai passengers died in the incident.


According to the Bangkok Post on the 29th (local time), Thani Sangrat, the Thai ambassador to Korea, stated that two Thai women on board Jeju Air flight 7C2216, a 45-year-old woman A and a 22-year-old woman B, passed away.

According to local media, Ms. A was from Udon Thani Province in northeastern Thailand. About seven years ago, she came to Korea for work, married a Korean man, and lived in Korea. She used to visit her hometown once a year and had traveled to Thailand with her husband earlier this month.


Her husband returned to Korea around the 14th, and Ms. A boarded the early morning flight on that day, where she lost her life.


Ms. A’s father (77) told local media Matichon in an interview that he was shocked upon hearing that his daughter was on the accident flight. He tearfully expressed his wish to see his daughter’s face one last time when her body returns to their hometown.


Ms. B was a senior at a university in Bangkok and was on her way to visit her mother, who lives in Korea after marrying a Korean.


Prime Minister Pattama Chinawath of Thailand expressed condolences to the victims’ families and the injured on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). He also instructed the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs to promptly assist the Thai families and provide regular updates on the situation.


Thani Sangrat, the Thai ambassador to Korea, conveyed, "I sincerely offer my condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives or were injured in this unfortunate incident."


Earlier that day, at 9:03 a.m., Jeju Air flight 7C2216, a Boeing 737-800 passenger plane from Bangkok, Thailand, attempted to land on the runway at Muan International Airport but collided with the runway’s outer wall, causing a fire. The accident resulted in the deaths of 179 people, including 173 Koreans, 2 Thais among the 175 passengers, and 4 crew members (pilots and cabin crew). Two crew members were injured.
