Ulju-gun, Opening of Eonyang Bansong~Samdong Sangjak Road

Connecting Ulju West to South, Travel Time Reduced by 5 Minutes

The road connecting the western and southern regions of Ulju-gun, Ulsan, from Eonyang Bansong to Samdong Sangjak, was opened on the 27th.

On the same day, Ulju-gun held an opening ceremony for the road in the Dungiri area of Samdong-myeon, attended by County Governor Lee Soon-geol, city and county council members, and about 150 local residents.

The Eonyang Bansong~Samdong Sangjak road, with a total cost of approximately 46 billion KRW, was completed after five years of large-scale road construction since its groundbreaking in January 2020.

This site, passing through hilly terrain and mountain ridges, presented challenges due to its harsh environment with geological features such as bedding planes, joints, and fracture zones scattered throughout.

Additionally, due to environmental impacts, there were difficulties during construction, including two occurrences of tensile cracks and collapses on the large cut slopes (maximum height about 35?38m) and more than three collapses on the general cut slopes (maximum height about 15?25m).

Ulju-gun found a solution by utilizing the collapses that occurred during construction to contribute to public welfare. For example, timber debris generated during the reinforcement of the collapsed large cut slope was provided as firewood to vulnerable groups during the cold season, linking the construction project to public welfare and receiving positive responses from residents.

The Eonyang Bansong~Samdong Sangjak road connects to the Yulli~Samdong connecting road opened by Ulsan City in March 2020, reducing the travel distance by 2.8 km compared to existing roads and shortening travel time by about 5 minutes.

Ulju-gun has been conducting a basic plan establishment and feasibility study for the ‘Eonyang Bansong~Beomseo Cheonsang road construction project’ since July last year, in connection with this road.

Once the project proceeds, it will help alleviate traffic congestion on National Route 24 passing through Sinbok Rotary, a major issue for the entire Ulsan area, and will establish a comprehensive transportation network connecting the western and southern regions centered on Ulju-gun.

Governor Lee Soon-geol said, “With the opening of the Eonyang Bansong~Samdong Sangjak road, the transportation network connecting the western and southern regions of Ulju-gun will become more convenient, and travel distance and time will be reduced when local residents visit the Ulju-gun office, which is expected to enhance administrative convenience significantly.”

Ulju-gun, Opening of Eonyang Bansong~Samdong Sangjak Road Ulju-gun is holding an opening ceremony for the Unyang Bansong~Samdong Sangjak road.
