Maximizing the Impact of the Jeonnam Sports Festival
Creating Opportunities to Revitalize the Local Economy
Jangseong County in Jeollanam-do will operate the ‘Visit Jangseong Year’ to maximize the effects of hosting next year’s Jeonnam Sports Festival and Jeonnam Para Sports Festival.
According to the county on the 28th, the main focus is on ‘creating content that tourists can truly experience.’ One notable initiative is the ‘Luxury Forest Tour Again,’ which encourages visits to Chukryeongsan Mountain. This was inspired by the fact that tourists who drive to Chukryeongsan often have to return to their parking spot without completing the full course.
If you apply for the service in advance on the official website, a taxi will wait at the hiking endpoint and take tourists back to their parking spot. Tourists using public transportation such as trains can use a taxi both to reach the hiking course and to return to the town center. Since this free service is fully supported by Jangseong County, there is no burden for users.
The ‘Tourist Taxi’ program, which allows visitors to tour major attractions in Jangseong by taxi, is also drawing attention. For those living outside Jangseong, there are 3-hour, 5-hour, and 8-hour courses available, with the county covering 50% of the fare.
Travel support in cooperation with Jeollanam-do is also being promoted. If a team of two travels in Jangseong for up to 6 nights and 7 days, they can receive up to 1.5 million won in support for accommodation, transportation, meals, experiences, and insurance. Only those residing outside Jeollanam-do and Gwangju are eligible to apply. The program will run until the budget is exhausted, so it is advisable to plan ahead if you are interested.
In addition, a ‘Stamp Tour’ where visitors collect stamps while walking through Jangseong’s ‘hot places’ such as Jangseongho Lakeside Trail, Hong Gil-dong Theme Park, Baegyangsa Temple, and Pilam Seowon, as well as ‘Every Corner Live Busking’ and the Hwangnyong Garden ‘Fireworks Live Show’ are scheduled to take place throughout the year.
In line with next year’s major events?the 64th Jeonnam Sports Festival (April 18-21), the 33rd Jeonnam Para Sports Festival (April 30-May 2), the Gildongmu Flower Road Festival (May 10-11), and the Hwangnyonggang Autumn Flower Festival (October 18-26)?‘Visit Jangseong Month’ will be intensively operated in April, May, and October. Various participatory events and treasure hunts await visitors.
Additionally, the county plans to carry out multifaceted activities to promote the ‘Visit Jangseong Year,’ including developing a slogan and brand identity (BI), operating promotional booths at national expos and festivals, developing tourism products, and running SNS supporter activities.
County Governor Kim Hanjong said, “The year 2025, when both major sports festivals will be held in Jangseong for the first time, will mark a historic moment as we usher in the era of 10 million visitors,” adding, “We will establish a foundation for sustainable tourism industry development and create opportunities to revitalize tourism and the local economy.”
