The Conservative Party, one of the two traditional major parties in the UK, and the newly established right-wing populist party, the Reform UK Party, engaged in a heated debate over which party has more members.

Nigel Farage, leader of the Reform UK Party, announced on the 27th (local time) on X (formerly Twitter) that "the Reform UK Party membership has now surpassed 140,000," calling it "a major victory in British politics this Christmas."

The day before, Farage claimed that his party had more members than the Conservative Party and argued with Conservative leader Keir Starmer.

Farage asserted the day before that the party membership exceeded 132,000, surpassing the Conservative Party. Starmer responded on X, saying, "Nigel, are you deceiving your supporters this Christmas? This is a fake calculator coded to automatically increase. Like many, I am fed up with endless lies."

According to the Conservative Party, as of last month, the party membership stood at 131,860.

Starmer stated, "The Conservative Party has increased its membership by thousands following the leadership election."

Farage later called Starmer's claim "disgusting" in a media interview.

The Reform UK Party posted a monthly 'active membership' graph on X, stating, "We are the real opposition."

The Conservative Party, founded in 1834, is the main opposition party in the House of Commons with 121 seats.

The Reform UK Party, founded in 2018, is a newly established party holding 5 seats in the House of Commons. It has recently gained attention through the public support of Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and a close associate of former U.S. President Donald Trump.
