Goyang City Holds Pilot Project Report Meeting for Education Development Special Zone
Sharing 2025 Agency Project Plans... Pledging Cooperation Among Local Partnerships

Goyang Special City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced on the 27th that it held a project promotion briefing session for the Education Development Special Zone pilot area at Sono Calm Goyang on the 26th.

This briefing session was organized to promote the Goyang City Education Development Special Zone project, share the progress of projects by institutions carried out this year, and discuss the 2025 project plans for the Goyang City Education Development Special Zone.


About 100 people attended the event, including representatives from the Goyang Office of Education, EBS, Nonghyup University, Dongguk University, Joongbu University, Korea Aerospace University, Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education Media Education Center, Goyang Industry Promotion Agency, and local schools, who presented and discussed their respective project plans.


Among those present were Mayor Lee Dong-hwan of Goyang City, Kim Jae-kyung, Director of the Goyang Office of Education, Kim Seong-dong, Vice President of EBS, Son Byung-hwan, President of Nonghyup University, Lee Jeong-yeol, President of Joongbu University, Heo Hee-young, President of Korea Aerospace University, Kim Dae-young, Director of Administration at Dongguk University, and principals of five specialized high schools in the area. These local cooperation body members expressed support for the Goyang City Education Development Special Zone and pledged cooperation.


Mayor Lee Dong-hwan of Goyang City stated, “For the successful operation of the Goyang City Education Development Special Zone, cooperation from the local cooperation body and stakeholders of elementary, middle, and high schools within Goyang City is of utmost importance,” adding, “I hope that the various opinions raised at today’s briefing session will be reflected in the Goyang City Education Development Special Zone policy to nurture customized talents unique to Goyang City.”


The Education Development Special Zone is a Ministry of Education public project in which local governments, education offices, universities, local businesses, and regional public institutions collaborate to comprehensively support regional education innovation, local talent development, and settlement. Goyang City was selected for this project in February of this year.


The Goyang City Education Development Special Zone was born from regional specialized public education innovation, with the vision of building a virtuous cycle economic city where it is easy to be born, learn, and find employment. It aims to foster talent based on Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies and the media content industry and to revitalize strategic industries. Its promotion strategies include ▲ creating an environment conducive to raising children ▲ innovating Goyang City’s specialized public education ▲ strengthening connections among elementary, middle, high schools, universities, and industry ▲ and nurturing local industry talent linked to the field.
