China Extends Anti-Dumping Tariffs on U.S. and Taiwan Butyl Alcohol for 5 Years

China has decided to extend the anti-dumping duties imposed on butyl alcohol produced in the United States, Taiwan, and other countries for five more years.

On the 27th, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced that it will extend the anti-dumping duties on butyl alcohol imported from the United States, Taiwan, and Malaysia for five years, effective from the 29th.

The Ministry of Commerce explained the background, stating, "If the anti-dumping measures are terminated, dumping of butyl alcohol imported from the United States, Taiwan, and Malaysia into China may recur, and the resulting damage could continue to affect Chinese industries."

Butyl alcohol, a colorless liquid, is used in the production of detergents and plasticizers. Since December 29, 2018, the Ministry of Commerce has imposed anti-dumping duties ranging from 52.2% to 139.3% for the United States, 6.0% to 56.1% for Taiwan, and 12.7% to 26.7% for Malaysia on butyl alcohol imports from these countries for a five-year period.

Subsequently, in December of last year, the Ministry approved a review request for the anti-dumping duties on these countries and has conducted an investigation for about one year to make a final decision on whether to maintain the duties.
