The Guri City Smart City Living Lab is a project where citizens directly identify inconveniences and local issues they experience in urban spaces, and actively reflect citizens' voices from problem definition to deriving improvement measures. The project was carried out with 21 citizen participants recruited from Guri residents in June.
Representative solutions derived through the Smart Living Lab include ▲‘You and I Connected Guri,’ a safety service for elderly living alone ▲‘Automatic Waste Collection System’ capable of processing all waste including general and food waste ▲‘e-Local Information,’ a QR code installation promoting Guri City content at bus stops ▲and ‘Smart Rainwater Inlet,’ which enables opening and drainage through rainwater detection sensors.
Among the solutions derived, Guri City adopted ‘You and I Connected Guri’ through a vote by the citizen participants and has been providing a sleep management system to eight elderly living alone in Gyomun 1-dong since November 8.
Through the ‘You and I Connected Guri’ solution, Guri City monitors vital data collected during sleep such as heart rate, respiration rate, and tossing and turning of elderly individuals, enabling early detection and prevention of dementia symptoms, thereby actively addressing the care needs of the elderly population.
The citizen participants of this project said, “It was a great opportunity to learn about various policies the city is implementing for its citizens, and we will continue to take an active interest in city administration.” They added, “It was very meaningful to share the city’s issues with other citizen participants through the Living Lab and to play a role in finding services that citizens want by linking those issues with smart city service solutions.”
Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun of Guri City stated, “We will continue to actively strive to create a solid foundation for Guri City to leap forward as a smart future city by operating the Smart City Living Lab, where civil society can join forces, share opinions, and seek solutions to urban problems.”
