Yang Bunam: "Illegal Drug Information to Be Completely Blocked Online" Yang Bunam, Member of the National Assembly.

Yang Bunam, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea (representing Gwangju Seo-gu-eul), announced on the 27th, "The amendment to the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, which provides the basis for blocking the distribution of illegal information related to narcotics, has passed the plenary session of the National Assembly."

The amendment was introduced to regulate the distribution of information related to the manufacture, sale, and use of narcotics and similar substances on information and communications networks, as the online sale of narcotics and similar substances has been rampant. This is considered a strong measure to eradicate crimes related to narcotics.

According to data released by the National Police Agency on the apprehension of narcotics offenders over the past five years, the proportion of offenders in their teens and twenties among all narcotics offenders increased from 28.3% in 2020 to 38.1% as of June 2024, showing a yearly rise.

Yang stated, "The amendment will help prevent crimes related to narcotics in advance and contribute to establishing a safe information and communications environment."
