On the afternoon of the 24th, when Kim Seonsu, Deputy Mayor of Yongsan-gu, concluded over 40 years of public service.
A farewell gathering was held for Deputy Mayor Kim to say goodbye to the staff he had grown close to.
In his retirement speech, Deputy Mayor Kim said, “When I was a level 8 public official in charge of national and public daycare centers, I realized there was so much that a public servant could do while improving the working conditions that childcare teachers earnestly wished for. This became an important motivation for me to actively engage in public service thereafter.”
He emphasized that regardless of rank, all tasks are important and valuable, and that public service is a serious profession with authority and responsibility. He noted that the quality and quantity of administrative services delivered to residents vary greatly depending on one’s attitude toward work.
For this reason, he urged everyone to always keep learning and strive to adapt to new environments.
Reflecting on his 39 years of service, he recalled days filled with fulfillment as well as moments of silent tears, but he was supported by reliable seniors, colleagues who worked together, and juniors who trusted and followed him. He expressed gratitude, saying that the source of his honorable retirement today was his family.
Starting his public career as a level 9 official at Dobong-gu Office and rising to level 3 (Director) in Seoul City, Kim Seonsu, Deputy Mayor of Yongsan-gu, is regarded as a remarkable figure who shared his reflections on his public service career.
After the event, a pojangmacha (street food stall) was set up in the back alley of Yongsan-gu Office by his two daughters, Sujin and Sujeong, offering staff members fish-shaped bread and fish cakes, drawing attention.
It is known that the pojangmacha was arranged by the two daughters who came up with the idea and covered the costs, as a filial duty to celebrate their mother’s completion of over 40 years in public service and to congratulate her colleagues.
The heartfelt gesture by the two daughters deeply moved the staff. Kim Jaehun, Director of Tourism and Sports Facilities, said, “I have seen many retired seniors over the years, but seeing a family set up a pojangmacha for junior colleagues was a refreshing surprise, and I am grateful.”
The pojangmacha event was carried out as a surprise, sharing information with the Yongsan-gu secretary until the day of the event, reminiscent of a 007 operation.
