January 2nd Awards Ceremony Held in Jeju
The Korean Bar Association selected Lawyer Oh Seung-yeon (Bar Exam 1st class) as the individual recipient and Law Firm (Limited) Dongin as the group recipient of the 13th Lawyer Public Interest Award. The Lawyer Public Interest Award was established to honor the achievements of individuals and organizations that have defended human rights and contributed to society.
Lawyer Oh Seung-yeon has worked at the Korean Bar Association Legal Aid Foundation for the past 12 years. She has handled over 750 legal aid cases, contributing to the protection of human rights and the realization and promotion of legal welfare by securing the rights of socially and economically disadvantaged groups. She has also worked with organizations such as the Child Support Enforcement Agency, Danuri Call Center, and the Korean Bar Association to improve laws and systems for multicultural and single-parent families.
Law Firm (Limited) Dongin has carried out various public interest activities. In 2016, it established a Public Interest Committee to provide legal support activities such as legal counseling, advice, and litigation for socially vulnerable groups including people with disabilities, refugees and migrants, children and adolescents, and other disadvantaged groups. The firm was also recognized for contributing to the spread of a public interest culture within law firms by practicing sharing through various volunteer and sponsorship activities and scholarship programs alongside marginalized and struggling neighbors.
The award ceremony will be held on January 2 next year at the Shilla Hotel in Jeju, the venue of the 90th Lawyer Training Conference. The Bar Association stated, “We will actively encourage lawyers to practice a culture of public interest and do our best to help our society mature to the next level with a spirit of service and coexistence.”
