Socar "The Most Visited Sunrise Spot on New Year's Day is 'Jeongdongjin'"

The most popular destination for Socar users to watch the first sunrise of the new year was Jeongdongjin in Gangneung-si, Gangwon-do.

According to Socar on the 27th, the top three regions most visited by Socar users to see the first sunrise of the new year were all in Gangwon-do. Socar compiled sunrise spots based on parking data, extracting locations of vehicles that were parked with the engine off for more than 30 minutes within a 3km radius of nationwide sunrise spots selected by the Korea Meteorological Administration, starting one hour before the average sunrise time on January 1st this year (7:30 AM).

The first place was Jeongdongjin Sandglass Park, followed by Gyeongpo Beach and Sokcho Beach in second and third place, respectively. Other popular sunrise spots in Gangwon-do included Naksan Beach and Seorak Sunrise Park.

Jeju’s Seongsan Ilchulbong, Homigot in Gyeongbuk located at the easternmost point of the Korean Peninsula, and Seoul’s Sky Park, where the sunrise can be seen within the city, also made the rankings. By age group, people in their 20s most frequently visited Homigot, those in their 30s Jeongdongjin Beach, 40s Seongsan Ilchulbong, and 50s Gyeongpo Beach.

Additionally, data on users who went to watch the last sunset of the year was also released. On the last day of last year, Socar users most frequently visited Sokcho Beach in Gangwon-do, the only place in the country where you can watch the sunset from a beachside Ferris wheel. On the west coast, Daecheon Beach and Kkotji Beach in Chungnam, as well as Nakjo Village and Dongmak Beach in Incheon, ranked highly. The data was extracted based on the locations of vehicles parked for at least 30 minutes within a 3km radius of nationwide sunset spots around the average sunset time (5:30 PM) on December 31st last year.
