Kim Jun-young, Commissioner of the Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency, was questioned for the first time as a suspect regarding the deployment of police to the Election Commission during the emergency martial law on December 3.
The Emergency Martial Law Special Investigation Unit (Special Unit) of the National Police Agency's National Investigation Headquarters summoned Commissioner Kim on the 25th and investigated him as a suspect, the agency announced on the 26th.
Commissioner Kim was accused by a civic group on the 16th for deploying about 200 police officers to the Election Training Institute in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, and the Central Election Commission in Gwacheon immediately after the emergency martial law was declared on the 3rd.
Previously, Police Commissioner General Jo Ji-ho revealed that after the declaration of martial law, he received a message from General Yeo In-hyung, Commander of the Republic of Korea Army Counterintelligence Command, stating "We are heading to the Election Commission," and contacted Commissioner Kim, instructing him to deploy police, saying "It is appropriate to prepare for an unexpected situation."
At that time, the Chief of Gwacheon Police Station was present at the Central Election Commission site in Gwacheon, and the Chief of Suwon Western Police Station was at the Election Training Institute in Suwon. It was reported that police officers from the Gwacheon station were armed with K-1 submachine guns during the deployment.
