"Efforts to Overcome the Crisis of Regional Disappearance"
Kim Daejung, Superintendent of Jeonnam Office of Education, presented the achievements and vision of the Jeonnam Education Grand Transformation to overcome the crisis of regional extinction and respond to the future society in his year-end address on the 26th.
On this day, Superintendent Kim stated, "As the Year of Gapjin comes to an end, many policies are producing visible results," highlighting the successful establishment of reading and humanities education, the Public-Private-Industry-School Education Cooperation Committee, and the creation of an educational ecosystem through the Coexistence Path Project as major achievements.
In particular, 17 cities and counties, the highest number nationwide, have been selected as pilot areas for the Special Educational Development Zone to foster future talent, and the Jeonnam Student Education Allowance will be expanded to 100,000 KRW per month for all elementary students in the Jeonnam region starting next year.
He continued, "We are also establishing a 'bilingual education foundation' that reflects the regional characteristic of having the highest proportion of students with immigrant backgrounds in the country," adding, "The establishment of the (tentatively named) Jeonnam International Vocational High School, aimed at nurturing glocal talent by attracting outstanding overseas talent and linking with local industries, is also progressing smoothly."
Superintendent Kim mentioned the successful hosting of the '2024 Korea Glocal Future Education Expo' held in Yeosu last May, emphasizing that the '2030 Classroom,' prepared by about 400 frontline teachers, has established itself as the representative brand of Jeonnam education.
He also stated, "Next year, we will gather our strength and wisdom to further materialize the Jeonnam Education Grand Transformation in schools," adding, "We will ensure that all students in Jeonnam can proactively design their lives and grow into glocal talent."
