Former Deputy Minister of Oceans and Fisheries under Yoon Administration Appointed as President of Busan Port Authority

Former Vice Minister of Environment Approved for Employment as Chairman of Korea Environment Corporation

Song Sang-geun, former Vice Minister of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries under the Yoon Suk-yeol administration, has received approval for employment as the President of Busan Port Authority.


The Government Official Ethics Committee announced on the 26th that it conducted employment reviews for 63 cases requested by retired public officials on the 20th and disclosed the results on the Public Official Ethics System website.


According to the results of the "Employment Review for Retired Public Officials in December 2024," Lim Sang-jun, former Vice Minister of the Ministry of Environment who retired in June this year, received approval for employment as the Chairman of the Korea Environment Corporation. Lim previously served as Secretary for National Tasks at the Presidential Secretariat from July 2022 to June last year before serving as Vice Minister of Environment.

The former Deputy Director of the Financial Supervisory Service, who retired last November, received approval for employment as the President of the Financial Security Institute.


A person identified as Mr. A, a former Grade 3 administrative officer at the Presidential Office who retired in October last year, was approved for employment as the Standing Auditor of the Korea Energy Agency.


According to regulations, employment is permitted if there is no close business relationship between the duties held by the review subject while in public office and the prospective employer.


The Ethics Committee decided on "disapproval of employment" for two cases deemed not to meet the legal grounds for employment approval.


For three cases where employment was undertaken arbitrarily without prior employment review by the Ethics Committee, a request for fines was submitted to the competent court.


Additionally, for 79 cases in the first half of this year where employment was undertaken arbitrarily at institutions subject to employment review without undergoing the review, a request for fines was submitted to the competent court.
