Installation in Traditional Markets Difficult for Fire Truck Access Enables Initial Response in Case of Fire
Secured 50 Million KRW for 2024 Seoul Traditional Market Facility Modernization Project Funding
Geumcheon-gu (District Mayor Yuseonghun) announced that underground buried emergency fire extinguishing devices have been installed at Byeolbit Nammun Market (17, Siheung-daero 144-gil, Geumcheon-gu, Seoul) for rapid initial response in case of fire.
Byeolbit Nammun Market has narrow passageways, making it difficult for fire trucks to enter quickly, and the densely packed shops with sales stands make initial response crucial in case of fire.
Also, the existing outdoor fire hydrants have large installation areas and complicated usage methods, making it difficult for merchants and visitors to use them.
Accordingly, the district secured a project budget of 50 million KRW through the Seoul City 2024 Traditional Market Facility Modernization Contest and completed the installation of underground buried emergency fire hydrants (hydrant, drainage device, 50m hose reel) at two locations in Byeolbit Nammun Market.
The underground buried fire hydrants do not obstruct passage and are simple to use, allowing any merchant to respond initially in case of fire.
The usage is simply to open the top cover and pull the hose, and it is designed to enable early suppression, making it more efficient than existing outdoor fire hydrants.
The two locations where the emergency fire extinguishing devices were installed are placed at central points to enable rapid response to all areas within the market in case of fire, and it is expected to prevent large-scale damage.
In addition, the Byeolbit Nammun Market Merchants Association plans to further strengthen fire prevention and initial response capabilities through maintenance, management, and usage training of the emergency fire extinguishing devices in cooperation with the fire station, centered on the autonomous fire brigade.
Yuseonghun, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, stated, “The installation of underground buried emergency fire extinguishing devices has significantly enhanced fire safety at Byeolbit Nammun Market, creating an environment where both merchants and visitors can feel secure,” and added, “We will continue to promote various projects for safety and convenience that residents can directly experience.”
