Guri City has so far prevented Chironomid larvae incidents by installing fine filters, air curtains, fine screens, and insect traps at the Topyeong Water Purification Plant. However, to further upgrade the facilities this time, it received 50% of the budget from the Ministry of Environment as national funding and invested a total budget of 400 million KRW to additionally install a facility that treats small organisms using a micro strainer.

The micro strainer is a facility that installs a fine pore device of 88㎛ or less in the tap water pipeline to filter out foreign substances. It automatically cleans the fine pores before contamination, enabling the supply of clean tap water 24 hours a day.

Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun of Guri stated, “With the establishment of a perfect small organism larvae (Chironomid larvae) response system, we can supply cleaner tap water to citizens,” and added, “We will make our best efforts to improve the reliability of tap water and create a happier Guri City for our citizens.”
