Barrier-Free City Realization... Convenience Facilities Installed in 28 Locations
POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks (Director Lee Dongryul) held a ceremony for the installation of barrier-free ramps in Jungma-dong, Gwangyang-si on the 26th, actively taking the lead in making "Gwangyang, a livable city."
Approximately 30 people attended the event, including Jung Inhwa, Mayor of Gwangyang, Choi Daewon, Chairman of Gwangyang City Council, Jeong Sangkyung, Deputy Director of Gwangyang Steelworks, Jeong Heonju, Director of Jungma Welfare Center for the Disabled, and Park Moonseop, Chairman of the General Affairs Committee of Gwangyang City Council.

The barrier-free ramp installation ceremony is a social contribution project initiated by Gwangyang Steelworks in May 2024. The project aims to help neighbors with mobility difficulties access restaurants and convenience facilities more easily by installing ramps.
In reality, people with disabilities who use wheelchairs have faced difficulties accessing convenience facilities due to the lack of ramps. To address this, Gwangyang Steelworks has installed ramps at 28 locations, including restaurants, hair salons, pharmacies, cafes, and marts, making it easier for wheelchair users to access these facilities.
In particular, since Gwangyang City took the lead in realizing a barrier-free city by enacting the “Gwangyang City Barrier-Free City Ordinance” in 2021, Gwangyang Steelworks’ ramp installation project is expected to contribute to creating a better local community in cooperation with Gwangyang City.
Jeong Sangkyung, Deputy Director of Gwangyang Steelworks, said, “We promoted this project under the interest of Gwangyang City to guarantee the right to mobility and improve the quality of life for the mobility-impaired in our community,” adding, “We will continue to actively participate in realizing a barrier-free city in our region through ongoing social contribution projects.”
Jung Inhwa, Mayor of Gwangyang, said, “Creating a livable city is not something Gwangyang City can achieve alone; it requires the interest and participation of local businesses and citizens,” adding, “We will take the lead in realizing the true meaning of a barrier-free city by overcoming not only physical but also psychological barriers.”
Meanwhile, Gwangyang Steelworks is also carrying out projects such as the “Connecting Hearts for Seniors Living Alone” initiative, installation of safety bars in senior citizens’ homes, donation of vehicles for social welfare facilities, and operating a tour program of Gwangyang Steelworks for people with disabilities.
