Over 100,000 Foreign Tourists Visit Annually... Actively Marketing as a 'Global Festival'
Hwacheon County, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Governor Choi Moon-soon) is actively working to globalize the ‘Hwacheon Sancheoneo Festival.’
Hwacheon County announced that it will hold a ‘Seoul Foreign Correspondents Club Briefing’ at 6 p.m. on the 26th at the Taepyeong-ro Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul, to promote the ‘2025 Ice Country Hwacheon Sancheoneo Festival,’ which will open on January 11 next year, to foreign media.

Hwacheon County holds an annual briefing session for the Seoul Foreign Correspondents Club to promote the Sancheoneo Festival, which attracts more than 100,000 foreign tourists each year. This year, Governor Choi Moon-soon will personally give a promotional presentation about the festival to foreign reporters and participate in a Q&A session. During the briefing, promotional videos of the festival will be screened, and promotional materials such as leaflets translated into major foreign languages including English, Japanese, and Chinese will be provided.

Furthermore, Hwacheon County plans to hold two press tours inviting foreign correspondents on the festival opening day, January 11 (Saturday), and January 18 (Saturday). Interpretation services will be provided to participating foreign reporters, and coverage support will be offered.
Based on its annual exchanges with the Foreign Correspondents Club, Hwacheon County is promoting the festival on the global stage. For the 2024 Hwacheon Sancheoneo Festival, about 600 festival-related reports were delivered through foreign media not only in Asia but also in the Americas, South America, Africa, the Arab world, and Europe. In March, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism selected the Hwacheon Sancheoneo Festival as the only global festival among domestic winter festivals.
Governor Choi Moon-soon of Hwacheon County said, “We are doing our best to prepare for welcoming guests so that both domestic and foreign tourists can safely and joyfully enjoy the festival.”
Meanwhile, Hwacheon County continues festival marketing targeting local travel agencies in Southeast Asia, including Taiwan and Vietnam, as well as domestic inbound travel agencies.
