Operation of Food Tech Industry Support Group
Goyang Special City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced on the 26th that it held the ‘2024 Goyang City Food Policy Forum’ at the Baekseok Annex of Goyang City Hall on the 23rd. About 50 participants, including the Goyang City Food Committee, consumer groups, and food industry experts, attended the event.

The Food Policy Forum was organized under the theme ‘The Future of Goyang City’s Food Industry’ to share the achievements of Goyang’s food policy initiatives and to build public consensus on new policy projects.
In the first part of the forum, Moon Yoo-joo, head of the Agricultural Distribution Team at Goyang City Hall, presented Goyang’s new food policies, including △the Basic Plan for Coffee Industry Promotion and △the Operation Plan for the Food Tech Industry Support Group. Following this, Oh Hyun-seok, director of the Ilsan Nonghyup Local Food Hub Center, and Choi Jung-soon, education director of the Consumer Citizens’ Association Goyang Branch, presented △excellent cases of local food industrialization and △successful examples of fostering food consumption culture, respectively.
In the second part’s discussion, Kim Hong-sang, director of the Agricultural Policy Research Center (former president of the Korea Rural Economic Institute), served as the chair. Experts from various fields participated as panelists, including Professor Lee Kwang-geun of Dongguk University’s Department of Food Science and Biotechnology (coffee research field), Professor Lee Seok-hee of Dongguk University’s Department of Food Science and Biotechnology (cell-cultured meat field), Hwang Ho-rim, director of Coffee Science (coffee industry field), Na Do-eun, executive chairman of the Goyang Sustainable Development Council (sustainability field), and Kim Ui-su, CEO of K-Bridge Insight Co., Ltd. (agricultural processed food field). They discussed ways to foster Goyang’s food industry.
Goyang Special City plans to actively incorporate the various opinions and implementation plans derived from this forum into future Goyang-type food industry promotion policies.
Meanwhile, Goyang City has set a vision for coffee industry promotion as ‘One million population, 1,000 kinds of coffee! Goyang, a coffee city leading local coffee culture,’ and has presented four major strategies and twelve tasks.
Regarding the operation of the Food Tech Industry Support Group, Goyang City has established an industry-academia cooperation relationship with Dongguk University, a leading domestic university in the field of food science and biotechnology, and plans to support startup growth and build a system for overseas market entry.
Mayor Lee Dong-hwan of Goyang Special City said, “The food industry is the most important industrial sector for the future. I hope that Goyang City, building on the success of the local food industry, will discover and nurture second and third even more successful food industries and move toward becoming a better city to live in.”
