Dobong-gu Installs Customized Ramps at 20 Small Facilities... Current Law Does Not Regulate Ramp Installation for Small Facilities... On-Site Survey Conducted from August to November... Installation Completed This Month
Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) announced that it installed customized ramps at 20 small-scale facilities in the area this month to improve convenience for pedestrians with mobility challenges.
Customized ramps refer to ramps designed to suit specific environments or situations to help ensure safe and convenient movement for pedestrians with mobility challenges such as people with disabilities, the elderly, and young children.
Previously, the district confirmed that pedestrians with mobility challenges faced difficulties when entering small-scale pharmacies, restaurants, and cafes where ramp installation is not mandated by law, and thus promoted a ramp installation project.
Under the current Act on the Guarantee of Convenience for Persons with Disabilities, the Elderly, Pregnant Women, etc., ramp installation is only mandatory for facilities above a certain scale.
From August to November, the district conducted on-site surveys targeting stores wishing to install ramps and completed installation at 20 facilities meeting the criteria as of this month.
A district official stated, “We plan to conduct satisfaction surveys for facility owners and users and increase the number of installations in the area.”
Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, said, “It seems we have taken one more step toward guaranteeing the mobility rights of pedestrians with mobility challenges. We will continue to do our best to create an environment where all residents can live without inconvenience.”
In addition to the small-scale ramp installation project to guarantee mobility rights for pedestrians with mobility challenges, the district is carrying out various other projects. Representative initiatives include support for repair costs of mobility aids including manual wheelchairs, installation of rapid chargers for electric mobility aids, support for insurance enrollment for electric mobility devices, and operation of free shuttle buses.
