Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon District, Seoul, attended the remodeling opening ceremony of the Nowon Math Culture Center at 2 p.m. on December 24.
The Nowon Math Culture Center is an experiential learning space established in 2019 as the first of its kind among local governments nationwide to popularize math culture and link various educational programs.
This remodeling mainly focused on the second floor, which was previously used as the exhibition space for 'Ttirittiri Computer World.'
The renewed space has been revamped into the 'Math Play Zone,' which includes various experiential programs such as ‘Math Step,’ where visitors can experience math concepts like fractions and multiplication through play; ‘Match Math,’ where participants become game protagonists solving math problems; and ‘Match Touch,’ which teaches the regularity of numbers.
Additionally, the district plans to continuously introduce software (SW) content that stimulates mathematical curiosity and enhances learning effects, considering the learning levels of young children, elementary students, and family visitors.
About 50 people, including Mayor Oh Seung-rok, city and district council members, and officials, attended the opening ceremony, which proceeded in the order of ▲progress report ▲introduction of guests ▲greetings ▲cutting ceremony ▲rounding.
Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, “We remodeled the exhibition hall not just for simple viewing but to encourage experience and expansion of thinking. I hope this space becomes one where children can feel the joy of math and cultivate their curiosity through play and experience.”
The Nowon Math Culture Center plans to introduce paid admission starting January next year. Nowon residents will continue to use the center free of charge as before, and after a pilot operation in December, visitor feedback will be reflected to create a more complete viewing environment.
