Mr. A crossed over to Japan in March last year and posted false advertisements on internet secondhand transaction sites and social networking services (SNS) claiming to sell "concert tickets," "Apple Watch 8," and other items, swindling about 200 million won from 780 victims.

The Uljin Police Station in Gyeongbuk and others issued a warrant for Mr. A on charges of fraud, and the National Police Agency also obtained an Interpol red notice, designating him as a high-priority fugitive and launched an intensive manhunt. On July 30, the Fukuoka police responded to a separate report of case 112 and found the suspect at the scene, confirmed the Interpol red notice, and immediately arrested him.

The police forces of both Korea and Japan, along with the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Fukuoka, discussed the timing and method of repatriation, and agreed that the escort officer would take custody of the suspect immediately after the conclusion of his local criminal trial.

A National Police Agency official stated, "After the suspect’s repatriation, investigations will continue not only into the cases already reported but also into any additional crimes committed domestically before entering Japan," adding, "We will continue to consolidate international cooperation capabilities to pursue and bring to justice malicious fraud crimes infringing on public livelihood, such as the rapidly increasing secondhand transaction frauds."
