Gwangju Employment and Labor Office (Director Lee Seongryong) announced on the 24th that, in commemoration of the 24th On-Site Inspection Day, it conducted inspections for risk factors such as collapse, fire, and explosion during winter at the construction site of Seonun 2 Elementary School in Unsu-dong, Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, to prevent safety accidents that may occur in winter.
In winter, due to low temperatures and dry conditions, there is a risk of large-scale casualties at construction sites caused by collapse accidents during concrete pouring, as well as fires, explosions, poisoning, and suffocation incidents.
During the inspection, construction workers were advised that prolonged exposure to cold waves in winter can cause cold-related illnesses such as hypothermia and frostbite, as well as cerebrovascular and cardiovascular diseases. The three basic rules for preventing cold-related illnesses?wearing warm clothes, drinking water, and taking breaks in shelters?were introduced. Special attention and care were also requested for those with underlying conditions (such as hypertension and diabetes) and elderly workers.
Director Lee Seongryong emphasized, "Collapse, fire, and explosion accidents in winter can cause significant damage and may even affect nearby residential areas. I urge construction sites to re-inspect for any risk factors on their own, and above all, it is crucial to immediately correct any identified hazards."
