Haenam County to Provide Joint Support for Agricultural Income Preservation Worth 5.2 Billion Won

Regional Nonghyup Collaboration... Public Reserve Rice Purchased at Over 61,000 Won

Haenam County in Jeonnam will jointly support the preservation of agricultural income for the remaining rice, excluding the amount purchased for public stockpiling, in cooperation with the local agricultural cooperative to stabilize rice prices.

According to the county on the 24th, the support amount is 2,000 KRW per 40kg, and the agricultural cooperative will match 2,000 to 4,000 KRW, resulting in a purchase price of at least 61,000 KRW per 40kg, which is the public stockpiling purchase price for this year.

Haenam County to Provide Joint Support for Agricultural Income Preservation Worth 5.2 Billion Won County Governor Myung Hyungwan, Haenam County Council Chairman Lee Sungok, Farmers' Association President Lee Mujin, Village Chiefs' Association Chairman Chu Yunseok, and Regional Nonghyup Management Council Chairman Kim Kyungchae attended the agreement ceremony for stabilizing rice prices. For the 2024 harvest, Haenam County produced approximately 3,171,000 sacks of rice (based on 40kg per sack), with about 546,000 sacks purchased for public stockpiling. Excluding public stockpiling and self-consumption, the budget is expected to reach about 5.2 billion KRW. Support will begin in March next year. For rice purchased by the agricultural cooperative, support will be provided jointly with the cooperative, while for privately purchased rice, direct support will be given to farmers.

The county has been holding consultations since last month with the county council, local cooperative council, farmers' association, and village head association to preserve the income of local farmers and stabilize rice prices amid worsening rice price declines.

At the agreement ceremony held on the 24th, attended by County Governor Myung Hyun-kwan, Haenam County Council Chair Lee Seong-ok, Farmers' Association President Lee Moo-jin, Village Head Association Chief Choo Yoon-seok, and Local Agricultural Cooperative Council Chair Kim Kyung-chae, all parties agreed on the urgency of stabilizing rice prices and preserving farmers' income, and committed to actively cooperate on future schedules and initiatives.

County Governor Myung Hyun-kwan stated, "The nationwide decline in rice prices is raising concerns about decreased income for Haenam farmers, who are in the largest rice-producing region in the country. Moving forward, we will continue to seek long-term and practical solutions through active communication with local organizations to respond to various crises such as climate change."
