Gangjin County to Invest 11.2 Billion Won in Hanwoo Industry Development Next Year

Distribution of 43 Business Guidebooks... Support for Young Farmers

Gangjin County, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kang Jinwon) announced on the 24th that it will implement an investment project totaling 11.2 billion KRW in 2025 to foster the Hanwoo (Korean beef cattle) industry.

This project consists of 43 detailed initiatives across seven main areas: Hanwoo breeding improvement, feeding management, quality enhancement, marketing, forage production, management stability, and other projects. It will be promoted using various funding sources, including 8.4 billion KRW in subsidies from national, provincial, and county budgets.

In particular, 1.2 billion KRW in subsidies has been allocated to the Hanwoo breeding improvement project, which helps Hanwoo farmers receive higher prices at shipment, and to support supplementary feed for quality enhancement. For securing high-quality forage, 5.9 billion KRW will be invested, including support for silage production, transportation costs, seed expenses, and machinery and equipment. Through these efforts, the county aims to strengthen the competitiveness of the Hanwoo industry and help stabilize farm management.

Additionally, 670 million KRW will be invested in supporting feeding management materials and facilities, 80 million KRW in marketing activities, and about 660 million KRW in management stabilization projects. Through these large-scale support initiatives, the county seeks to improve the quality and competitiveness of the Hanwoo industry.

The county plans to distribute 700 copies of the "2025 Hanwoo Industry Support Guidebook" to town and township offices, livestock cooperatives, and the Hanwoo Association to ensure Hanwoo farmers do not miss the opportunity to apply for subsidies. The guidebook includes an overview of each project, application procedures, and forms to help farmers easily understand and utilize the information.

A county official explained, "Due to falling Hanwoo prices and rising feed costs, many Hanwoo farmers take on side jobs in other industries during the winter off-season and often miss the application period. To address this, we are distributing the guidebook."

In addition, Gangjin County plans to strengthen the expertise of young farmers in Hanwoo breeding, livestock product distribution, and marketing by supporting the acquisition of professional livestock qualifications, workshops, and field trips to advanced sites. The county will spare no effort in providing multifaceted support to help young farmers grow as the core leaders of the Hanwoo industry.
