Kim Dong-yeon Holds Luncheon Meeting with US Ambassador Goldberg: "Grateful for Korea's Trust and Support"

Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon met with Philip Goldberg, the U.S. Ambassador to Korea, on the 24th and expressed gratitude for the unwavering trust and support toward Korea.

Governor Kim expressed his appreciation to Ambassador Goldberg for his firm belief in and support of the resilience of Korean democracy despite martial law and impeachment situations.

He then explained to Ambassador Goldberg that he had sent letters to political leaders in exchange regions worldwide, including nine U.S. state governors, sharing the stable situation in Korea and Gyeonggi Province, and that they have been gaining strength from the supportive responses received.

The two also reaffirmed that the Korea-U.S. alliance, including economic cooperation such as advanced industry exchanges, remains unshaken, and pledged to maintain close communication going forward.

They agreed to join forces to fulfill the role of the Korea-U.S. alliance in maintaining peace and stability in Northeast Asia on the Korean Peninsula.

The luncheon meeting with Ambassador Goldberg, who is set to retire next month, was arranged based on their ongoing friendship.

Governor Kim first met Ambassador Goldberg in November 2022 when he visited Gyeonggi Province, discussing ways to strengthen cooperation between Gyeonggi Province and the U.S., as well as between Korea and the U.S. In April last year, they built rapport by watching the professional baseball opening game together at Suwon KT WIZ Baseball Stadium, with U.S. 8th Army Commander Willard Burleson also present.

In September last year, Ambassador Goldberg and Governor Kim visited Camp Humphreys in Pyeongtaek and met with U.S. Forces Korea Commander Paul LaCamera. In March this year, when Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer visited Gyeonggi Province, Ambassador Goldberg was also present, solidifying mutual friendship and trust.

Since their first meeting, Gyeonggi Province has built a close relationship with the U.S., including signing two new friendship and cooperation agreements (MOUs), three visits by the Gyeonggi delegation to the U.S., and twelve meetings with nine U.S. governors, greatly enhancing both quantitative and qualitative cooperation.
