Patent for Recycled Aggregate Concrete... Reducing Construction Waste
Eco-friendly Cement 'Equivalent to Planting 2.46 Million Trees'
Focus on Supporting Disabled... Employee Participation Volunteer Activities

Doosan Construction is striving to develop various technologies to practice Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) management in line with the government’s greenhouse gas reduction policies. Last month, it became the first construction company to obtain a patent for 'Recycled Aggregate Concrete.' The company is also engaged in various activities to promote a culture of sharing.

Construction waste accounts for 40-45% of domestic waste, making recycling essential for environmental protection. The government has enacted laws to promote the recycling of construction waste generated from construction projects and mandated the use of recycled aggregates in at least 40% of certain public construction projects. However, recycled aggregates are currently only used as base materials for roads or in asphalt concrete for road pavement. Due to quality variations in recycled aggregate concrete, its use in buildings is avoided.

To address these issues, Doosan Construction developed a technology that applies admixtures including shrinkage reducers and strength accelerators to minimize drying shrinkage during concrete curing and achieve stable compressive strength exceeding design standards. Furthermore, the company secured optimal mix designs for recycled aggregate concrete across all standards using recycled aggregates with compressive strengths ranging from 18 to 27 MPa (megapascals). This technology can be immediately applied on-site when needed. Additionally, Doosan Construction is continuously conducting related research, including the development of high-strength recycled aggregate concrete exceeding 40 MPa.

Last year, the company obtained a patent for eco-friendly blast furnace slag cement, which reduces carbon dioxide emissions by up to 46% compared to ordinary Portland cement, and has been applying it on-site. Doosan Construction used approximately 32,000 tons of eco-friendly blast furnace slag cement last year, reducing 13,800 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. This reduction is equivalent to the effect of planting 2.46 million trees, comparable to forestation covering 1.8 times the area of Yeouido.

Various Sharing Activities

Alongside technological development for the environment, Doosan Construction shares warm hearts with many in need to promote a culture of sharing. The company pays particular attention to supporting people with disabilities. For two consecutive years, it has donated all proceeds from the Korean Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) 'Doosan Construction We've Championship' gallery to support disabled sports and athletes. Donations collected through the charity zone during the tournament are also delivered to those in need.

Employee participation volunteer activities are also conducted. On the 5th, employees including the CEO carefully mixed and packaged 200 kg of salted cabbage in a 'Love Kimchi Sharing' event. The company also operates the 'Doosan Construction Usury Donation Fund,' which collects spare change from employees’ salaries annually for donations. This year, the fund was used to support vulnerable people with disabilities in the Incheon area and those in housing vulnerability in the Cheonan area.
