Holding a Lawmakers' Meeting on the 24th to Nominate Kwon Young-se
Emphasis on Stability Over Reform
Standing National Committee on the 26th and National Committee on the 30th
Final Confirmation of Emergency Committee Chair Appointment
Kwon Seong-dong, Acting Party Leader and Floor Leader of the People Power Party, nominated Representative Kwon Young-se as the Emergency Response Committee Chairperson on the 24th. This is interpreted as placing more emphasis on national stability and party unity rather than reform and change.
In his opening remarks at the party members' meeting held at the National Assembly on the same day, Acting Leader Kwon explained the reason for appointing Representative Kwon as the Emergency Response Committee Chairperson, stating, "The new Emergency Response Committee must take on the heavy responsibility of national stability, party unity, and change. More than ever, abundant experience and immediately deployable capabilities are required."

Acting Leader Kwon continued, "Representative Kwon is a five-term lawmaker from the Seoul metropolitan area, recognized for his competence and leadership in unification, having served in key government and party positions," adding, "The coordination between the party and government is more important than ever, and I have no doubt that the candidate for the Emergency Response Committee Chairperson will fulfill his duties faithfully."
Representative Kwon, appointed as the Emergency Response Committee Chairperson, is regarded as a stable figure within the party due to his long-standing experience. Representing Yongsan in Seoul, he is a five-term incumbent who has previously served twice as the party secretary-general, as ambassador to the Republic of Korea Embassy in China, and as Minister of Unification. In the recent presidential election, after President Yoon Seok-yeol dissolved the election committee due to conflicts with former Emergency Response Committee Chairperson Kim Jong-in and former party leader Lee Jun-seok, Representative Kwon took charge of the campaign headquarters and managed the election campaign smoothly, earning trust both inside and outside the party.
Acting Leader Kwon stated, "As the floor leader, I will work diligently with the newly appointed Emergency Response Committee Chairperson to ensure that political turmoil does not harm the daily lives of the people," adding, "I will approach this task with the spirit of carving a path in the wilderness and creating a river in the desert."
Acting Leader Kwon announced that if consensus is reached at the party members' meeting, a Standing National Committee will be held on the 26th, followed by a National Committee meeting on the 30th to finalize the appointment of the Emergency Response Committee Chairperson.
