The construction of the new Veterans Hall in Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do, which had been delayed for over a year due to the contractor's abandonment of the project, has been completed.

The city decided to rebuild and relocate the old Veterans Hall from Kimryangjang-dong to Yeokbuk-dong, starting construction in March 2022 with an expected completion in October last year. However, the project was delayed due to raw material supply shortages caused by COVID-19 and a strike by ready-mix concrete delivery drivers. In particular, in March, the existing contractor abandoned the project amid a downturn in the construction market. The city took urgent measures, replaced the contractor in August, resumed the project, and recently completed the construction, granting temporary use approval.

The new hall is a building with one basement floor and four above-ground floors, totaling 2,629 square meters of floor area. In addition to offices for nine veterans organizations, the building includes ▲a veterans exhibition hall ▲a health promotion room ▲a large auditorium ▲a cafeteria ▲and a rooftop garden.

For the convenience of visitors, the city installed exercise equipment and massage chairs in the health promotion room and supported the cafeteria’s interior and supplies. To ensure efficient operation of the veterans exhibition hall, the city will continue to consult with related organizations and plans to create a memorial garden around the hall to provide a resting space for national merit recipients and citizens.

Lee Sang-il, Mayor of Yongin City, said, "We could not keep the veterans who sacrificed and dedicated themselves to the nation waiting any longer, so we expedited the construction as much as possible," adding, "We will create a veterans and neighborhood park near the building to make it a space shared with citizens."

After conducting building commissioning, the city plans to officially open the hall in the first half of 2025 through consultations with the resident organizations.
